About the project

The Development of Smart Furniture with Artificial Intelligence and Medical Devices benefits from a € 1 594 749 grant from Norway through the Norway Grants. The project has been co-financed from the State Budget of the Slovak Republic in the amount of 281 426 €. The aim of the project is to develope smart furniture with artificial intelligence and medical devices for seniors and disabled people. Activities

Activity 1

Field Research and Scientific Search Leader. In the first step, in this activity will be defined the barriers that need to be overcome for users, the difficulty of movement, and fine motor skills in space will be scaled. The primary physical needs of the immobile and the elderly in independent living will be set. It will also be necessary to define the space requirements and modifications of pieces of furniture in order to complement and streamline the solutions of the architectural space of the users’ homes.

Activity 2

Development of design, ergonomics, and material composition of intelligent furniture. The company NOVOTA ART, s.r.o., as the main partner, will be responsible for the production of prototype furniture, interior, and exterior accessories for people with disabilities and self-living persons. The company will be the main leader of the project and will ensure the overall research management of the project. The activity will include the creation of 3D designs of intelligent furniture, simulations of physical, mechanical, motion, and electronic functions of furniture parts, the creation of construction plans and materials for production.

Activity 3

Research and development of software and hardware solutions. Control software (Control Unit and Artificial Intelligence), robotic mechanisms, programming of the medical center, and medical devices integrated into the furniture will be developed in this activity. The activity will include the creation of control software (Artificial Intelligence) for individual pieces of smart furniture, which will be integrated into the program unit with the connection of medical meters and mechatronics and controlled via a display with a speech module.

Activity 4

Prototyping and testing smart furniture. In Activity no. 4, individual prototypes will be finalized in terms of material, robotics, hardware, and software. The first output will be complex prototypes of intelligent furniture designed for the final testing of functionality. Initial testing and stress tests will be performed under laboratory conditions and program simulations will be performed.
